UNICON22

UNICON is the unicycle world championship and convention that happens once every two years. Unicyclists from all over the world come together for two weeks to ride, compete, and have fun. This time it all took place in Steyr, Austria. This is a medium sized town, about two hours by train or car to the west of Vienna. 

This was my first unicon competing in the expert category, and it was definitely a very different experience than riding in junior. However, I really liked it. I competed in eight disciplines, which is actually a lot less than two years ago. Now that I’ve finally kind of figured out what I like to do, doing “only” the urban and the jump disciplines just felt right. I still had to ride quite a lot though, as I ended up getting into the finals of seven out of the eight disciplines. I had a lot of fun riding in most of these comps, and especially the finals were really cool.

Of course the competitions are not the only thing happening at unicon. There are many workshops, rides, parties, and very importantly: swimming sessions. Right next to the city centre of Steyr two rivers combine into one. Which makes for many great swimming spots. Everyone went swimming so much over the course of these two weeks, as during some of the very hot days the water was basically the only place where it was bearable.
