Unicon in Bemidji

Here I’m with thousands of unicyclists in Bemidji for the start of Unicon21. We just experienced the impressive openingsceremony for the Worldchampionships of Unicycling. We paraded with our Uni’s through town and had spontaneous meet and greets. This Unicon in Bemidji is the 21st time the Worldchampionships are held. But it’s my first and will therefore always be the special one.

I will be competing in Flatland, Street and Speedtrials. Will also do high-jump onto platform and over a bar, and the long jump both on platform and track. Then there is Muni Cross Country, Cyclocross, and Uphill and Downhill. And of course I will compete in the long distance road races: 10Km and Loop the Lake (Apx 55Km).

To me Unicon is first a great event to meet people in real life (instead of through social media), but I also hope to achieve some personal goals. I hope to land certain tricks in Flatland and Street. Also hope to finish the Loop the Lake race and achieve a personal best in the 10K. But first and foremost I hope to have an absolutely wonderful time here in Bemidji.

During Unicon21 you can find a Unicycling Museum at the Sanford Center. Admission is free, donations are appreciated. The museum is open for two hours a day, check the (purple) schedule here. The museum has a great collection of special unicycles, shirts and memorabilia. It’s just great.
