Played STOKED! at Theater Joseph Wresinski Cultuur Stichting in my hometown of Zwolle (NL). Had been in bed for over a week with a harsh flue and thus had little rehearsal-time. Was quite anxious because of it, but it went reasonably well. Normally I sing a bit higher and stronger, but today was still more than okay. The unicycle-tricks were good on all unicycles. So pretty pleased with that too. Afterwards we had a lovely diner in the theater with visitors and the theaterhosts.
We have now played STOKED! six times and rehearsed it continuously, while also working on the 90-minutes edition of the show, named Truly STOKED! I feel that I’m growing into character and there ‘s also a lot of chemistry with the other characters, especially when (in the show) I’m dealing with my mom. Now that the nerves are under control I can really enjoy the show and that’s an awesome feeling.
I’m also getting grip on the unicycle trick-parts in the show. Those segments aren’t scripted and thus pure improvisation. The segments change every show as I put in different tricks (etc). What I put in depends on how I feel and also on how much space and time we have. Makes sense right? You can’t take a lot of risks with a unicycle when the first row is only a metre away. I learn quite a lot from it and have great fun doing that.
